11th Hour – Control (BASSINV01) [HNYBSS Premiere]

If there ever was a label that you should be keeping your eyes on going forward, it’s growing Belgian imprint Bassin Records. Following it’s most positively received release so far with Beatsforbeaches‘ ‘Eazy Baba’ EP and consistently running an impressive weekly radio show on the Belgian airwaves (Bruzz 98.8FM ), Bassin breaks into the vinyl market this week with it’s first 10″ exclusive release. Two of Belgium’s finest 11th Hour and Zygos bring a couple of original tracks each to the plate, including today’s premiere ‘Control‘ by 11th Hour.

11th Hour takes up the A-Side with two of his latest creations. The Belgian producer has kept busy making bangers for a minute now but for me, really came to prominence late last year following his smooth and chilled LP ‘Nightlife‘ on Smallprint Recordings and a couple of super deep cuts on Uprise Audio (UA038). For BASSINV01, 11th Hour ventures into the deep depths of 140 once again with these two heavyweight cuts. ‘General Dread‘ offers a dangerously heavy combo of constant chest rattling bass and killer drums, plus potent 8-bit-esque rings cutting through. Whereas today’s hypnotic premiere ‘Control‘ sees 11th Hour deliver mesmerising deep, rolling bass-weight and lacerations of distorted synth.
On the flip, one of my favourites for a long time now, Zygos takes the baton for two of his latest works. First he presents what appears to be a ‘sequel’ to a track that featured on his previous self released ‘Haunt‘ EP. ‘Xi Dub Pt 2‘ follows on from where the previous instalment left off; offering plucky syncopated melodies over more sharp trappy percs, centred around clear far-eastern influences. Similar to 11th Hour‘s ‘Control’, Zygos also offers a rather hypnotic roller for his second track ‘Sodesko‘, effortlessly rolling through with a unique breathy synth lead and more perfectly crisp, clean-cut drum work.

I’d imagine it’s not a decision to be taken likely as a fledgling label to put out it’s first vinyl exclusive release. But if, like Bassin Records, you were to bag four faultless tunes by two super talented, widely applauded producers such as 11th Hour and Zygos, I’d imagine the decision was made a whole lot easier. Because if you’re a collector yourself, all of a sudden, BASSINV01 has become a must cop.

BASSINV01 is out this Friday (1st May) and available on vinyl here.
