He’s the name on everyone’s lips in the world of 140 right now. If you don’t already know about Ninety, then get to know. With one successful release to his name already this year on LDH Records and more locked in on the likes of Wheel & Deal and Deep State Audio, Ninety has entered 2021 like the Terminator. But for his next attack, he invades Dread Or Dead Records with yet more explosive, cutting edge material. ‘Cave Runner‘ EP features three of the Russian’s latest creations including today’s premiere ‘Enchanted‘, plus two naughty remixes from Nizth and Alienmade.
Seemingly unable to miss the target, Ninety continues his hot streak with the opening title track, ‘Cave Runner‘. What initially seems to be a chaotic roller, an assault of provocative jangles and metallic rattles piercing holes into a runaway bassline, it becomes more intricate the further we head into the deep caverns. From the peculiar flapping hidden behind the percs to the rough low end shifts, this one captures Ninety‘s powerful eccentricity in all it’s glory. Whilst he transfers those eccentric traits into ‘I Wish’ by way of panicked oscillating strings, this second track is all about the depth. Unashamedly stripped back and sub focused, this one is a hazard to the foundations. There’s a sense of drama in the air upon today’s premiere, ‘Enchantment’, aptly named for the dramatic strings that take centre stage and the charming middle eastern notes that pan across perfectly. Whilst the theatrical strings and swells of low end pressure are sobering, the groove can be found in those ear tickling shakes and lively tambourine movements.
With great satisfaction, DOD006 is rounded off with two powerful remixes. I’ve waxed lyrical before about my love for remix features at the back end of an EP and the perfect example is right here. As expected by two underrated producers that always deliver, both Nizth and Alienmade let their creative abilities fly on ‘Cave Runner‘ and ‘Enchantment‘ respectively.
Ninety hits the mark once again with ‘Cave Runner‘ EP, perfectly presented by the consistently impressive Dread Or Dead. If he still isn’t on your favourites list, then this is a solid demonstration of why he soon will be.
