Oddkut – Dead Place (UNTD006) [HNYBSS Premiere]

Thanks to producers like Ninety, Leo Cap, Moscow Legend and labels like DUB.RAW, the underground scene in Russia are experiencing a very exciting time right now and there’s no signs of it stopping anytime soon. And now two other Russian protagonists present more state-of-the-art material with Moscow based producer Oddkut featuring on multi-genre label UNITED, alongside a very special guest. UNTD006 sees Oddkut experiment with his fierce sounds, indulging in various tempos as well as a couple of his more familiar 140 bangers. Today’s premiere is indeed one of those more experimental cuts, the opening ‘Dead Place‘.

From the onset, Oddkut comes in with big heady atmospheres on ‘Dead Place‘ and ‘Nightmare‘, a murderous combo of copious space and full-frontal aggression, both sitting at 130 and 120bpm respectively. Whilst today’s premiere, ‘Dead Place‘, releases atmospheric swells to soften the intense body-blows of distortion, the aptly named ‘Nightmare‘ goes full throttle on the face slapping mid-range violence with quirky vocal cuts breaking through. The second half welcomes Oddkut home with a couple of his characteristically powerful hits of 140. Following the vigorous breaks and surging low end pulses of ‘The Rotten‘, Oddkut teams up with yet another Russian dubstep pioneer, MSTKS, more widely known as Ghostek. The duo’s sound collides on ‘Hypnoisis‘ in a cold frenzy of brash yet minimal dubstep, plus Oddkut‘s own brand of grime that labels like Slimzos Recordings have enjoyed in the past.

Already possessing a stacked arsenal of grime and dubstep, UNTD006 sees Oddkut reach out even further into the limitless world of underground bass and once again, proves Russia’s growing prowess within the global bass music scene.

UNTD006 is out 09/04/2021 and available to download from the UNITED Bandcamp.
