Teffa – Synchronise (FAV017) [HNYBSS Premiere]

Ask me who I think is having a stand out year and one of the first names that comes to mind must be Teffa. The Londoner has unleashed some of the hardest material of the year so far on a number of imprints, most recently on Hotplates Recordings. Continuing to fire on all cylinders, he returns to Foundation Audio next week for his latest 12″, ‘Advance‘ EP. Loaded with four rounds of unyielding Teffa weight, including today’s premiere ‘Synchronise’.

Long time dub and collaborative opener ‘Advance‘ sees Teffa team up with little known producer, Moss. I’ll be honest, I didn’t have a clue who ‘Moss‘ was until this release. But who ever he is, I’m glad to have been enlightened, it’s clear he knows a thing or two on how to make a brain melter of a tune! For the track’s focal point, the pair run a ridiculous bass-line, rougher than sandpaper, tougher than Fury in the twelfth round. With an overwhelming bass-line like this, not only could it already be considered a future classic, it would’ve absolutely been a shut down tune over ten years ago during any of Coki‘s legendary sets. Today’s premiere ‘Synchronise‘ also exudes old school authenticity. Big chonky wubs dominate, becoming increasingly energetic and aggressive. Paired with some needle sharp percs – it’s yet more evidence that less can certainly be more, no frills but all the spills!
On the flip, Teffa brings some extra nutty low end textures and a whole range of quirky FX to the plate. One of the more detailed and funkier tunes of the four, ‘Bubble‘ is another example of Teffa‘s brilliant blend of serious system pressure with flashes of light hearted, wackier characteristics. Closing with ‘Ostrov‘, the Londoner deals with more funky low end pressure, packing in as many catchy rhythms as possible – this one’s an ear worm that’ll stalk you for a minute!

As a stand out producer this year, Teffa has flown into my regular rotations. Furthermore, alongside Moss, he’s now responsible for one of the hardest collabs this year! Chad Dubz and the Foundation Audio crew simply don’t deal in misfires and continue to land some awesome stuff with great focus on classic sounds whilst still, most importantly, moving forward.

FAV017 is out 31/08/2020 and available on vinyl and to download from the Foundation Audio Bandcamp.
