The Weekly Buzz – 04/03/2019

Sub Audio boss man Gnischrew features on fellow underrated label ‘Indigo Movement’ this week, with a brand new three track EP. The Austrian producer has been lucky enough to land on a variety of labels over the last couple of years including FatKidOnFire and Infernal Sounds, mainly contributing the odd free download or single however, so it’s refreshing to see a fully fledged release to add to his growing catalogue. His productions often lean towards the dark side of the spectrum and his latest effort ‘Malheur EP‘ certainly hits a similar vibe, as even though there is a great variety of sound throughout, there is a vivid darkness coming across within all three tracks.

Noise Complaint’ opens up the release ripping through the speakers with a constant ferociousness created by unforgiving bass lines and relentless teeth grinding mid range synths that sits just on the right side of noisy. As the title suggests, play this one too loud and you might be hearing from the neighbours! The following track ‘Unorthodox‘ offers a bit of respite, adding a little more atmosphere to the EP with subtle melodies cutting through echoing swells, delayed swishes and a seriously smooth b-line. As with the previous tune, the percussion is certainly an element that can’t be over looked, sitting in the mix perfectly, crisp and powerful.
Speaking of powerful, fairly unknown French talent Fechos lends a hand on the EP’s final track ‘Malheur‘ which happens to be my pick of the three. The pair put together a mixture of hard kicks, icy synths and rhythmic triplet hats to cook up the ‘bad boy banger’ of the EP and once again, another brazen track to fuck up your neighbours’ quiet evening in.

IM036 is out today and available from the Indigo Movement Bandcamp.
