The Weekly Buzz – 15/04/2019

This week we’re treated to a cross boarder alliance, as American Dubstep veteran AxH teams up with Canadian Drum & Bass heavyweight Gremlinz on UK label Boka Records. The well established and respected producers collaborate on four hefty tracks as AxH, following his amazing ‘Tokyo EP‘ on Boka last summer, welcomes Gremlinz into the deep dark world of 140, two years in the making.

In a genre that’s currently brimming with intricate melodies and multi genre fusions, the pair strip it right back for the duration of the ‘Unleashed EP‘, bringing it back to refreshingly raw minimal dubstep. From the opening title track, the EP takes you through an atmospheric underground masterclass of sub frequency and percussion focused productions. Destined to shake the foundations, in either a dark club or a dark room at home. However on tracks likes ‘Noise Behind The Door‘ and the final track ‘Jammin Tek‘, the productions are kept fresh and dynamic with wild pads and samples, and eventual injections of ethereal synths respectively.

Jon from Boka Records sums it up best, “in some ways this might be the release we’ve always wanted to release. It ticks a bunch of boxes, atmosphere, spaciousness and killer snares. Hopefully the timing is good too, dubstep may be going through a transitional phase, finding a new identity. These 4 tracks by Gremlinz & AxH strip things back to the raw basics and put the emphasis back on primitive top-notch production”

BOKA051 is out Friday (19th April) and available on limited vinyl and digital from the Boka Records Bandcamp.
