Volume A returns to growing label and Dubstep platform Dirty Beats Music, following the heavy ‘A8‘ EP alongside Section 8 last year. For Volume A‘s return, the Malta based producer knocks out four bad boy bangers to compose ‘Trapped‘ EP. Today I have the pleasure of premiering my favourite cut from the release, ‘Down Lock‘.
But before today’s premiere, Volume A sets the tone with the deep and dark stomper, ‘Do You Remember‘. If you’re familiar with his work, then you’ll know all about Voume A‘s rough ‘n tough bass lines and this stomping, neck-breaking slice is one of his finest. However today’s premiere ‘Down Lock’ sees Volume A focus on big fiery kicks propping up the low end, alongside an impeccably chopped and screwed vocal lead, and splashes of raucous mid-range shrieks scattered throughout. For ‘Murder Style‘, Volume A circles back to his deeper roots with the similar head nodding, screw face rhythm that we became familiar with on the earlier ‘Do You Remember‘. However this one is a stripped back sound system destroyer, with the deep wubs and gnarly progressive bass doing the talking. ‘Run It Back‘ completes the release with tough resonant throbs and hyperactive percussive and SFX patterns in comparison to the previous tracks. This track in particular displays Volume A‘s creative and innovative capabilities, and offers a refreshing twist to the EP as a whole.
With ‘Trapped‘ EP, Volume A hits all the fundamentals required for a solid contemporary Dubstep release. However where he could have easily settled for his usual futuristic sub-focused stompers, he’s made sure to shake things up, particularly on the likes of ‘Run It Back‘ and today’s premiere ‘Down Lock‘ for a thoroughly enjoyable 140 experience.
