Continuing a very active year for the Belgian producer, 11th Hour delivers four absurdly heavyweight tracks for a near perfect self released project, ‘Uncharted‘ EP! With recent appearances on the likes of Uprise Audio and FatKidOnFire, you know he’s got the ability to produce some knockout material and so he does here. All four tracks are equally and characteristically beefy however today, I have the pleasure of presenting the EP’s astronomic title track, ‘Uncharted‘.
Opening with today’s premiere ‘Uncharted’, 11th Hour produces another journey into the cold, dark corners of space. Penetrating sonar blips and signals of a space craft produce guidance through the thick undulating sub-frequencies. The ‘uncharted’ territories become even more volatile upon the second drop, with tough mid-range distortions and the hiss of static bleeding through. Like Godzilla relentlessly marching through Japanese skylines, ‘Nemesis‘ bounds in with incredible power and earth shattering carnage. Rib cage rattling subs aside, the subtle progression of the percs throughout do well to seamlessly guide the track into further chaos, as the apocalyptic mid range screams become increasingly aggressive. And before you know it, you’re amidst the soundtrack to the end of days. 11th Hour tones things down slightly by turning on the groove for ‘Intruder‘, enjoying a smooth, dynamic bass line amongst sharp and simple chords. But for the last track, it’s back into the deep, dark orifices of 11th Hour‘s mind. Expansive, environmental swells and reverb breathe over the suffocating lows. Indications of alien life form skitter on by, triggering an ominous war cry of a piercing pan flute. Where flute samples and other woodwind SFX have been well used recently, these maleficent stabs in ‘Synapse‘ are by no means over done and placed perfectly in this otherworldly soundscape.
11th Hour‘s sound is growing, metamorphosing before our eyes and ears. The lows are bone crushing and the diversity in the drums and SFX are taking the tunes into different extraterrestrial realms. However, the Belgian prodigy has gone a step further to prove his growing ability, by producing some dub-wise, roots and culture influenced material on another brand new project, ‘Confidence‘ EP! Three tracks made to test the sound-system, including a collab with Mental Forces. If that’s your thing, you can also pick that up now from his Bandcamp.
‘Uncharted’ EP is out now and available to download from 11th hour’s Bandcamp.
