After a two week break from The Weekly Buzz, I had to make sure to feature something special. So this week, Teffa‘s debut on the excellent Hotplates Recordings was a no brainer. The Londoner has enjoyed a rather productive year so far, with must cop releases on the likes of Unity Through Sound (UNTYDUB001) and most recently a huge two tracker on the emerging LDH Records (LDHX001). However as expected for a release on the flawless Hotplates imprint, Teffa unveils two of his most impressive sub shaking productions for HOTPLATES006.
Similar to past releases on the likes of Overdue and White Peach Records, Teffa doesn’t shy away from old school influences and deep, roots and culture sounds. He architects ‘Kings Lodge’ for the A-side, constructed with a foundation of dirty, dynamic bass-lines and simple yet effective melodies stalking the sub movements, becoming increasingly lively the deeper we go. There’s echos of the old school for the most part, a construction fit for dubstep royalty. Teffa cranks up the silliness on the flip-side as he takes things extra terrestrial for ‘Hostile Worlds‘. Building on similarly thick low end movements to it’s sister track, Teffa laces the production with wet and wacky textures, injecting plenty of character and alien-like imagery.
Across just six releases now, Hotplates Recordings have become experts in sourcing the finest productions from both upcoming and established creatives. The strict two track format has become quite rare by my experience but still works so well, with only the hottest cuts and no dead weight making it to the press. With that said, for HOTPLATES006, Teffa brings the only weight that matters and that’s sub low, with a perfect mixture of personality and recognition of the roots.
HOTPLATES006 is out this Friday (17th July) and available digitally and on vinyl from the Hotplates Recordings Bandcamp.
