Following a memorable first release for the Shakhta Records gang last year courtesy of label founder WZ, the Czech imprint looks to keep the vibes within their borders for a second release with the relatively unknown Fizzy taking to the buttons. The emerging Czech producer cooks up three deep cuts of cinematic carnage for ‘Yo Dub‘ EP, with it’s title track being a clear highlight and today’s premiere.
Fizzy opens the door to ice cold atmosphere’s for ‘Yo Dub’, offering deep determined drives of sub-bass pressure in the process. Murmurings of Armageddon develop throughout, a world of looming chaos, from the piercing screeches of collapsing city skylines to warnings of an invasion of robotic overlords. The militancy continues into ‘Lok She‘, a more sparse, minimal soundtrack as we gaze across a flattened, smoky landscape. The overwhelming heavy calibre percussion continues to attack mercilessly, diminishing any chance of external communications as the static persists over mournful, ambient tones.
The trilogy is complete whereby Fizzy summons ‘Maasai Warrior’. The temperatures are kept below zero for the final stage of this bionic blockbuster, a cold but energetic climax with the most forceful, unrelenting bass weight pressure on the EP.
‘Yo Dub‘ EP arrives as quite the impactful debut for Fizzy. A consistent clash of sci-fi effects and apocalyptic soundscapes. For the most part, the EP runs like a soundtrack to a Michael Bay movie. However, crucially, Michael Bay sucks and Fizzy does not.
