7Kidz – Dirty Job (TMC012) [HNYBSS Premiere]

We begin 2023 as we intend to go on – highlighting underrated talent that stand ready to make a big impact! From slick minimal pieces to full bodied sub-shaking weapons, it’s been fascinating to witness the growth of 7Kidz‘s sound over recent years. The Belgian producer kicks off his year with a release on the equally impressive and underrated Too Much Collective. Following a heavyweight project from Jamzigg in November and a track from n/less, the label continues to give a platform to those looking to rise the ranks of the genre and 7Kidz grabs the bull by the horns with this one by producing a killer no skips EP. However out of the four tracks on TMC012, ‘Dirty Job‘ particularly hits the spot for me, which is why I have the pleasure of presenting it in full today!

The leading track ‘Snake Awakens‘, immediately demonstrates the growth in 7Kidz‘s production. His distinctive sound remains, usually sharp, slick and percussive focused, but here we’re treated to a fat slab of sub bass pressure, something that 7Kidz has clearly beefed up over time. Things calm down a little on the laid back ‘Ascension‘. It’s a moody and meditative cut with plenty of atmospherics and elevating effects, which intensify throughout the track before shifting into a lengthy stripped-back outro. Compared to the rest of the release, today’s premiere ‘Dirty Job‘, simply feels different. For a start, this is the toughest creation I’ve heard from 7Kidz. The low end has that swampy screw-face inducing feel to it, whilst glassy textures and crispy drums cut through. It doesn’t remain static either, as 7Kidz builds on the track into the later phases, adding light fluttering synths to the palette like the cherry on the cake. The fourth and final track ‘Undoing‘, is a characteristically dark and grimy cut – stripped back with a clean clear-cut sound. From the ominous screeching pads to some of the tightest percussion you’ll find, this is a classic 7Kidz piece to leave a lasting impression!

Too Much Collective are doing a great job in bringing some emerging names to the forefront and in this case, 7Kidz takes the opportunity to not only exhibit a recognisable sound he’s built over time, but also expand on it to become some of the hardest material he’s put out so far.

TMC012 is out 14/01/2023 and available to download from the Too Much Collective Bandcamp.
