The latest premiere brings a new name, new label and new flavours to the blog, just what we like to see! With their roots embedded in the drum ‘n bass world up until now, UK label Forest Biz tries out some 140(ish) material for their latest release, by welcoming BitLoud to the imprint with the aptly named ‘Strange Objects‘ EP. Developing his multifaceted sounds out of Burnley, BitLoud unveils three of his unique productions plus a brain-busting Sleepy remix. However we’re at home for today’s premiere with the super tripped out 140 cut, ‘Unfinished Prosecco‘.
The first of BitLoud‘s ‘strange objects’ comes in the form of the EP’s most elegant track of the four, ‘Deep Breaths‘. A dazzling mixture of colourful flickering synth and pretty vocal licks, it’s sharpness and zeal outlined by the breaks and fills of dancefloor driving percussion. Apart from the occasional glitchy stabs of distortion, the track offers a quintessential blend of the diverse flavours of UK bass and most importantly, opens the EP on high spirits.
With the original saved until last, the anonymous Sleepy brandishes ‘Ghost Melody’ with his take of left-field bass. A ruthless onslaught of humming low frequencies and jarring patterns of choppy, spasmodic drums, certainly in line with some corners of contemporary dubstep. With Sleepy‘s spin injecting some eerie tones into the release, BitLoud‘s original radiates in his signature energy and vibrancy. Sandwiched between is today’s tripped-out premiere, ‘Unfinished Prosecco‘. Delivering what feels like a wavy crossover of improvised jazz and lo-fi hip-hop, from the twisted vocals to the punchy kicks and shifting drums, all elements feel spontaneous and offhand, especially into the latter phases.
Bitloud‘s Forest Biz debut is certainly a diverse one. He demonstrates his innate ability to find success in a wide range of electronic sub-genres and takes those into realms more familiar to Honey & Bass. From the uplifting, dancefloor focused bangers to the vibey, mind-bending beats, it’s a potent mixture to be enjoyed from beginning to end.
‘Strange Objects‘ EP is out 02/04/2021 and will be available to download from the Forest Biz Bandcamp.
