Fresh from covering Silent Motion‘s previous release by SkintDisco last month, we have the honour of premiering a track off the label’s next release, created by the dangerous mind of Wolf Camo. ‘Apathetic’ EP features three brand new blood curdling tracks by the Canadian and similar to the label’s last release, three box fresh remixes from Sectra, Trisicloplox and Retina.
From the onset, Wolf Camo further explores the industrial, noise based avenues of 140 that he’s become known for. The opening title track begins with minimal, disjointed patterns filled with static distortions, feedback and all round abrasive textures before progressing into something heavier, brought on by the injection of dread inducing drones and setting the tone for the rest of the EP. Today’s premiere ‘Just Past The Tree Line‘ takes a more rhythmic path using harsh industrial sounds; angry, malfunctioning machines matched with alarm-like oscillating synth work dominate the doomful soundscape. Then the roller of the EP, ‘Emotions In The Face Of The Statue‘ thuds and rattles at a constant rate of knots with subtle progression and additions to the hostile sound palette, successfully holding attention throughout the sinister meditative production.
If you thought those three tracks were intense enough, then I suggest you take a break before breaking into the following three remixes. As expected when you see names like Sectra and Trisicloplox, these remixes are explosive and ferocious. Although Sectra takes ‘Apathetic’ and strips it down into a sparse open soundscape, the remix still retains its intensity, carried by a booming kick pattern. Trisicloplox follows with his demonic version of ‘Just Past The Tree Line‘, upping the teeth grinding mid range distortions (some of the harshest on the record) but keeping that eerie lead floating underneath – a real house of horrors creation. And finally, another Denver based producer Retina concludes the EP with his remix of the hypnotic ‘Emotions In The Face Of The Statue‘ by bringing it the dance floor. One for the head nodders but just as belligerent as its predecessors.
