Boy was it a tough choice for this weeks Weekly Buzz. There’s probably at least three other releases that would have made the cut any other week which I’ll probably discuss over on Instagram in the coming days. However it is Mesck‘s thunderous EP ‘Doomsayer‘ that hits the blog this week.
Pioneering dubstep blog TRUSIK continues to build on its label by signing this behemoth for it’s third release from the multi talented Mesck, who already carries a strong catalogue of releases on Crucial Recordings and Chestplate. ‘Doomsayer EP‘ delivers four brash apocalyptic productions as Mesck creates an unrelenting monster, letting it loose and leaving a trail of destruction in the process.
Opening the EP with it’s title track, ‘Doomsayer‘ arrives in devastating fashion; killer detailed percussion and a roaring mid range that hollers point blank in your face from the drop onwards, as Mesck‘s creation begins to rip through the landscape. The annihilation continues with the following track ‘Psychodrama‘. However this time Mesck engages with a manic melody that just cannot be contained. So with complete chaos as the goal in mind, its creator let’s the melodic creature loose to do further damage, consuming the earth alongside the explosive mids and throbbing lows.
Mesck joins up with partner in crime Kali, continuing to provoke the beast that purges on ‘Ill Behaviour‘. At this point the cataclysm has set in and the creature is running things for now. Signs of life can be heard but its the beast that prevails, pro longing the carnage.
With no sign of letting up, the beautiful destruction continues and concludes the EP as Mesck changes tactic by going into the darker realms of half time. Definitely a more dance floor friendly tune, ‘Pills & Chains‘ leaves us a bit of respite in the club but still, the devastation echoes.
A wicked visual piece of work that leaves a mark on yourself and your subs.
‘Doomsayer EP’ (TRSK003) is out this Friday (10th August) and available on wax from Unearthed Sounds.
