Ome – Canarios (LOCUS012) [HNYBSS Premiere]

It seems to appear that Bristol based label Locus Sound and myself are musically on the exact same wave length. Following a stonking debut EP from Mae‘s last month who featured on my ‘Producers To Watch‘ list earlier this year, fellow producer to watch and upcoming bass weight killer Ome also lands on Locus Sound this month with a well deserved three track EP, ‘Bermuda‘. Today I have the honour of premiering the opening track ‘Canarios‘, a solid example of Ome‘s sub-focused production style.

Canarios’ leads the way and develops into one of Ome‘s wavier tracks. Where his usual production style appears fairly dark with aggressive, punchy low end, this one has a bit more of a laid back quality to it. Although the sub-bass oscillates rapidly with a quick switch into slower throbs, the atmospheric synth work soothes things down, developing into a trippy spaced out journey.
The title track ‘Bermuda‘ sees Ome fall into areas that I’ve come to expect from the upcoming German producer; punchy rough-neck bass-lines, subtle eerie samples and crisp percs, this is carried into the final track ‘Rollin‘. As the title suggests, this one is a proper roller; minimal, with a powerful old school bass line and such clear percussion, you can pick out every hit including the super crisp rolls and fills, plus that smacking metallic snare.

Ome displays his full range across these three tracks, including areas I’ve never seen him delve into across his fledgling catalogue, demonstrating why he most certainly is one to watch. And once again Locus Sound keeps their ear firmly to the ground, continuing to pick up the finest upcoming talent in the genre.

LOCUS012 is out this Friday (27th March) and available to download here.
