It’s been a while since I’ve put together a ‘Dub Buzz‘, so here’s a short list of tunes I’ve recently laid my ears upon during my sonic adventures and so should you! This edition features eight brand new productions by both established and upcoming producers that should be snapped up by any right minded labels out there.
EKSTR – Verleden
He’s already landed on the likes of LDH Records and 786 Recordings this year, yet Belgian producer EKSTR still remains fairly fresh on the radar. You wouldn’t have thought so either with this latest cut, ‘Verleden‘, an absolute feast of texture and kooky SFX alongside the most absurd low end movements to have recently graced my ears. It continues to tickle the ear drums inside and out, and makes every last hair stand on end!
Oxóssi – Cut My Wings
Undeniably one of the best producers in the game right now, Oxóssi gave an insight into the gold that sits in his vault during a recent mix made up of unreleased gems. His recent upload ‘Cut My Wings‘, is another unreleased treasure and also happens to be a twenty-four carat banger! Expressing yet another side to his creative capabilities, this one is a big-room trappy bit with ground shaking 808s, charming melodies and dazzling synth lines. A euphoric celebration for those returning to the club!
Pharma & Sedan – Untitled
If you didn’t know by now, when you see these two names side by side, you should expect nothing less than a stone cold stunner! Pharma and Sedan have combined multiple times now but this one must stand at the helm. Remaining untitled, this latest collab is an unadulterated stomper that’s so minimal yet feels so big with masses of reverb floating off that croaking bass. I’ve always likened certain corners of dubstep to curtailing and controlling an escaped monolithic beast, this might be the perfect example!
Dalek One – The Test
Speaking of beasts, Dalek One is no stranger to cultivating one or two. The Denver based producer has consistently been at the top of my rotation recently thanks to a couple of killer self released EPs and plenty of regular teasers such as ‘The Test‘. Yet another example of Dalek One‘s devastating sound, the growling subs are designed to shatter teeth and the switches are designed to melt the brain, but the devil is in the details with those energising breaks and essential nutty samples.
Basura – Down The Tunnel
I must also thank Dalek One for this one. Skimming through his feed I came across this hidden gem from fellow Denver producer, Basura. On a Jeepers Creepers tip, this one is proper demonic with explosive bass, haunting cavernous space and sneaky breaks that seem to be becoming more popular which I’m all for. This is one hell of an underrated tune! Oh, and even more madness has appeared on his feed since this one, so fill ya boots with a brand new talent!
Imajika & Arkwright – The Sun Shines Through The Cracks
Both Imajika and Arkwright have always been capable of manifesting some 140 power, right the way through an expanding spectrum. So for the pair to combine, carnage would always be on the cards. ‘The Sun Shines Through The Cracks’ relays such carnage, not long after a melancholic, vibe setting intro which I’m always a sucker for. It then transpires to be a devastating sub-driven experience. The biting percussive textures are gripping and the throbbing weight is relentless, especially as we dive head first into the second drop madness, met with chainsaw mids ripping through the soundscape.
Mob Killa – Hattori
Mob Killa is one gnarly dude and one who’s on quite the hot streak after his release on Concrete Law Records last month, which featured on June’s edition of The Hive. Like most of the Dutchman’s creations, this latest cut is another uniquely eccentric piece. Bonkers bass movement and unbelievably clean percussion aside, those samples and sound effects are near genius. From the hooting pigeon to the twisted voices and high frequency tones, Mob Killa paints out an alien ambience that I just can’t quite articulate, the way dubstep should be.
Gantz – Bye Mickey
Speaking of fucking weird, here’s new stuff from the legendary Gantz. Ever the creative and never one to settle for the status quo, Gantz has torn up the rule book once again with ‘Bye Mickey‘. Proceeding with one of the most unique intros I can remember, Gantz develops a jarring mish mash of fierce kicks, gut wrenching rumbles with characteristically wacky and intangible sounds buried beneath. Trippy, tense and violent that borders on the psychedelic, it’s got it all.
